Day 7: The Same Two Miles

The majority of my running is right outside my work. It is convenient, quick and easy to get my run done before I get home. I've run this same two miles probably 30-40 times, adding on extra mileage as I improved my endurance.  But it hasn't always been like this. Here are the stats from this same run I did last May when I started running:
This is when I was learning to run, learning to listen to my body and learning how to pace myself. What I was not doing at that time was challenge myself. I didn't need to, just getting out there was the challenge itself.

Because "it's the most wonderful time of the year," that means it is also the most busiest time of year. It means during this streak I have to re-teach myself to run short distances. It is hard for me to think of only running a mile or two after running 4-5-6 miles regularly. But the goal of this streak is to improve my 10k performance and that means challenging myself to run faster for longer periods of time.

So back to today. I travelled the same two miles, but this time as a more advanced runner. Since my running partner was with me, I knew we could conquer those two miles faster than I've done before.

I ran so hard and pushed myself so much that my poor running partner had no one to talk to. I couldn't keep a conversation going. But I pushed and ran and pushed and ran. I challenged myself and kept my goals in mind. And it all paid off. Those two miles have been conquered and will never be the same in my mind again.
